Oh Green Goodness Day

Pura Vida!  Pure life is the literal translation of a saying here in Costa Rica that means 'cool'!  Lydia and I are living up our pure cool life here in Escazu.  In the mornings we wake up to breakfast made for us by our host mom.  You have got to love rice and beans in the morning and at night!  This morning we had fresh pineapple and bananas as well.  We take our little backpacks and have about a five minute walk to Country Day School.  It was St. Patrick's Day yesterday and I wore green on accident.  Lydia was safe with a sticker her cooperating teacher supplied her.  In the gymnasium with the elementary students we are preparing for field day that is coming up.  Today we worked at relay races and soccer with the students.  My favorite part about warming up with the elementary students is how imaginative they can be.  You tell them to run around the gym like a horse or slither on the ground like a snake and it is loads of fun to them.

Three o'clock hit and the students were off to their homes.  Lydia and I finished doing our online duties because we do not have internet at our host families' house.  We walked back home briskly as we were eager to get our computers to a safe place and not out on the streets of the city.  When we arrived at our host families’ house we were really energetic and decided to exercise.  We did a mixture of kickboxing, lunges up the steep driveway, cross-country warm ups, push ups, and abdominal exercises.  We hope to be sore tomorrow.  We also think that our host family thinks we must be crazy.  After our delicious Popeye spinach soup we sat with the family and watched "Quien quieres ser un Millionario".  Costa Rica's version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire".  Lydia and I were glad we weren't the ones competing in the hot seat because some of the questions only true Ticans would know.  Our host family is kind at all times and they make us feel special because they laugh at all of our jokes.

Pray this:  Lord give Lydia and Alaina the words to say to their host family each morning and night so they can be active in sharing about your son Jesus.  Grant them energy and creativity with the students they encounter every day.  May the teachers around them see something different about them and ask questions about you, God.  It is in your holy name we live and breathe. Amen.
